To work the city from its existing content appears to be an essential and determining contemporary issue.

Located in the Perrache district, the Market of National Interest (like a wholesale market) is surrounded by the residential area Saint-Blandine, the highway A6, the boulevard Charlemagne and the new urban district of Confluence 1. This district clearly shows the strength of flexibility of architecture.
Our objective was to demonstrate the potential of architecture, not in the idea of conserving a memory of the previous site, but rather in the re-investment and the mutation of architectural spaces.
This project must demonstrate the inherent potential of architecture to adapt to new uses, to new epochs.
A 6.00 meters wide component with some differences  is repeated on more than 500 meters for this market. It was abandoned in December 2008.
The evaluation of the potential of flexibility of this architecture is essential. To develop this approach we put together a catalogue listing all the constructions of the area, their surfaces, their height, their interiors, their façades, and their structures. This analysis helped us to explore new building possibilities.
Through this project we wanted to evaluate first what the existing city can support today.
